Crispy hake fillets
Catching area
The Cape hake lives along the coast of South Africa, which is also known as FAO fishing area 47. Since this is quite far away from the Netherlands we have to import our Cape hake from South Africa or Namibia. The European hake lives a bit closer to the Netherlands, since it can be found in the Atlantic Ocean. The fish is especially found in the Mediterranean Sea. Since it is not found in the North Sea very often we also have to import our European hake.
Since our crispy hake fillets are breaded, most of the taste come from the breading. However, within this breaded crust you can still taste the delicious, mild and creamy flavour of the fish. One hundred grams of crispy hake fillets contain around 142 calories. They contain a lot of proteins and B-vitamins too, which is the case with every fish product. Normally fish products do not contain carbohydrates, but our crispy hake fillets do because of the breading. However, this may not be considered as a bad thing since carbohydrates are one of the main sources of energy for the human body.
We mainly export our crispy hake fillets to catering industries in Sweden and Germany. However, hake is also very popular in Spain and several other countries. Especially the Cape hake is quite popular in Europe because of its great quality. There are different ways to eat crispy hake fillets. One way is to eat them as fish burgers. However, you can also eat the crispy hake fillets with a sauce or lemon wedges. The most common way to eat breaded hake fillets is probably to eat them as fish and chips. You can also serve them with potato wedges instead of deep-fried chips to keep the dish a bit healthier.
