Crunchy battered Cod Nuggets (Kibbeling)
Catching area
Our Atlantic cod, which is used for our battered cod nuggets, is caught in the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is also known as FAO fishing area 27. After the Atlantic cod is transported to our company, we batter it in our own ultra-modern and advanced production line.
Battered cod nuggets contain more calories compared to cod loins or cod fillets. One hundred grams of battered cod nuggets contain around 220 calories. However, this is not a reason to stop eating them since they are really delicious. Thereby, cod nuggets also contain cholesterol, which serves as a precursor for the biosynthesis of vitamin D, and sodium, which plays a critical role in our bodies by controlling the function of our muscles and nerves, keeping the circulatory system working properly and helping regulate water balance. So cod nuggets are definitely not unhealthy.
Cod is a really popular dish that is eaten particularly in northern countries. Thereby, most children like to eat cod nuggets too. In the Netherlands they use the name ‘kibbeling’ for fried cod nuggets. This dish is eaten a lot as a snack. The original kibbeling is made from the cheeks of the Atlantic cod, but nowadays they also use the flesh from the belly of the cod. In the Netherlands they often serve the dish with garlic sauce or tartar sauce. Battered cod nuggets are often served with deep-fried chips too, which is also known as fish and chips. We also have developed our own ready-made fish and chips product which you can order too. The potato wedges that are used are made from high quality potatoes and the cod portions are obtained from MSC-certified fisheries. It is really easy to prepare them, so they are perfect as a meal, appetizer or snack.
